On November 1, 2017, ʻO Hina i ka Malama had the opportunity to collaborate with the ALU LIKE, Inc Kupuna program. The moʻolelo, mele, hula and ʻoli shared were in celebration of our Kamehameha Genealogy. The haumana of ke kula waena researched and shared about Kamehameha I, II, III, IV and V. Information of Queen Emma, Princess Ruth, Princess Pauahi, Princess Likelike and Prince Leleiohoku was shared by the students as well.
Huakaʻi ma Moʻomomi
Once a month, the haumāna travel to Moʻomomi to work on marine debris curriculum that Kumu ʻIolani Kūʻoha developed for Mālama Hōnua, Hōkūleʻa Worldwide Voyage. Haumāna complete various activities, they recognize the kai, mahina, and makani. Haumāna draw what they see, create a haiku and collect data of debris within a 50 square ft radius. Check out the data collected within the 5 quadrants. We were fortunate to have Jim Foley with NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) attend our huakaʻi. He was very impressed with what we do and how it meets the objective of our NOAA grant received in 2015.
